Yup.  A lot of amp customizers do the same thing... they'll pot their mod 
with black epoxy or sand the identifying marks off of the components.  Any 
idiot can measure a resistor and you can get an ECG meter for about $50 
that'll measure a cap, but it's difficult to ID a transistor, SCR, or chip.
