It may have been stocked at one time, but not in years. At
any rate, the fish that are there, evidently are reproducing.
There are an awful large number of hand sized Perch of
several different varieties. There are some Small Mouthed
Bass too. I may put out a couple of throw lines the next
time I go up. It may not doo any good because there are
Turtles in there. They have a bad habit of stealing the
Bait from set lines. I at least will take my Fly Rod
up there and see if I still have the skill. Some of those
good sized Perch should create a lot of fun on the 12 foot
Flyrod. I usually play them until I wear them out and catch
and release. Although, if I can get a good "Mess" of them
I may take them up to the Ranch House. I would scrape off
all of the scales, Gut and Clean and cut off the heads.
Just right for Salt and Peppering and dredging in a mixture
of mostly White Corn Meal with enough flour to make it
stick together, and a little Corn Starch to make the
batter get crispy when they are fried. Those littlew critters
are sure tasty. You have to be careful with the small Bones
that are there. That is why I prefer Catfish to Perch.
Especially the 15 to 20 pound ones. Just Skin them and
cut the Fillets from the backbone. Hardly any bones
to contend with.
