12358e2f2a4a tech Hello Jim - CA>>> Any comment about what all that asbestos was doing in an CA>>> office building in 2002 when that is supposedly illegal? RS>> According to the architect (on PBS) asbestos was legal RS>> when the building was started and about half way through RS>> construction they were forced to change to a less RS>> effective fire retardant. The architect said that the RS>> building would have lasted hours longer if asbestos had RS>> been used throughout as designed. RS>> I think that the risk by trying to remove the asbestos is RS>> much too great in comparison to leaving it be. If it's not RS>> disturbed, it's fairly safe. CA>> Sounds reasonable but they tore down a perfectly good High CA>> School (large one) here in Michigan because the cost to CA>> remove the asbestos was too great. No mention of just CA>> 'leaving it there' at the time. JH> Over the years, asbestos was used in a large number of ways JH> in the building construction industry. Since you now seem JH> to be a bit of an asbestos guru, I don't recall stating that I had any special information about asbestos that would give you the impression I think I'm an asbestos guru? JH> I'll ask if the asbestos used in the spray-on steel JH> fireproofing at WTC was the same application and the same JH> types of asbestos fibers as were installed in that JH> torn-down high school? I'll wager a dime to a donut - - not. The high school was, at most, a two story structure which would seem to indicate a somewhat different design. How much was done to fire-proof the school I do not know but considering the numbers of persons in a school outnumber the average office building (per square foot) I would think fire retardants to allow time for the populace of the building to exit in case of fire would be a factor in the design? If not, it should be. I think there were asbestos ceiling tiles throughout the building and I recall some mention of pipes being wrapped in asbestos (steam pipes?). I have little to no interest in achitecture and did not find the subject particularly interesting at the time. > > , , > o/ Charles_Angelich - DOS Ghost \o , > __o/ > / > www.undercoverdesign.com/dosghost/faf/ < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
