MA> and one thing was for sure, no comments of a derragatory or
MA> even questioning nature, were made about the Alamo or the
MA> defenders of the Alamo. We treated John Wanye's film as a
MA> documentary.
RC>Other than some stereotyping common to the day, the film
RC>was *fairly* accurate. It was only after the film was made
RC>that archived Mexican documents revealed that there were
RC>survivors who were subsequently brutally executed.
Even still, those within those sacred walls made a decision to
stand in the defense of Texas against unimaginable odds knowing, with
no room for doubt, that they were choosing to give their lives for
liberty. If, after that incredible onslaught a handful of wounded and
dazed patriots were captured, I see no dishonor in that. Those 187 can
never be dishonored.
Another thing I have heard lately is that the Alamo represents a
sort of shrine to white people. This is total nonsense. If you look at
the list of names of those who died there, those defenders were of both
English and Spanish heritage. The Alamo is not a shrine to any
particular group of Texans, but a shrine to all Texans.
