Well, bus travel isn't USUALLY as hard on guitars as plane travel. You can
usually "supervise" the loading of your guitar, and it won't be loaded by the
automated luggage-mangler, and more often than not, doesn't get dropped 20
feet onto the pavement.
ATA cases for acoustic guitars are ghastly expensive, and heavy. If it's
only a bus trip, I'd gamble.
