I must not have been clear.  I had a functioning network- router and 
cable modem.  I replaced the router.  OS/2 will use the new router to 
access other machines but cannot access the email server or web pages 
- but it can ping a domain and get a response.

I only mentioned the XP laptop to indicate the hardware seems to be 
able to work because XP with Mozilla works - both wired and wireless.
