That is a real possible situation.
Year 1995 will _never_ come back.
MvdV> I think the best idea is to do away with the zones alltogether.
MvdV> We never really needed then anyway end the implementation was
MvdV> shakey. lets get rid of them
Indeed, there is no need for anymore. Not today and over 5 years not any
reason.
MvdV> 1) Get rid of Region 2:55. we do not nd an IP only umbrella net
MvdV> any more. That takes care of the duplicate regions
Agree. In the new nodelist you can see I'm IP only node in R28.
And you will find that more nodes change to IP only.
The reality is that today more and more people have *DSL internet
connection.
MvdV> 2) Get rid of the duplicate nets by rnumbereing the few
MvdV> remaining.
MvdV> 3) Get rid of the zones. For technical compatibility ever node

Agree.
HN>> And don't forget, Z2-R50 is shrinking too,
MvdV> Of course they are shrinking, Just like every other region has
MvdV> been slinking since 1996

MvdV> They are going through the same process as we did. They are just
MvdV> lagging five years behind
Agree.
HN>> But we are 'die-hards' aren't we? ;-)
MvdV> Thats it.
MvdV> The best thing one can do to keep FidoNet going is to just hang
MvdV> on and keep writing, Like you and me are doing...
Agree.
HN>> At the time R28 has gone, I ask for a nodenumber in R50 ;-) No
HN>> problem with 'Fido Over IP'
MvdV> The problem is that I can not read Russian.
But Russians can read English too. A few can even read/write Dutch;-)
MvdV> I will opt for a node number in a net in Germany I think. The
MvdV> closest is net 2448. I am not sure Bob Bashe will have me
MvdV> though... ;-
I bet he will. Without any problem;-)
Best Regards,
Herman Neut
