Hi Warped people,
I'm running a small LAN with 2 Warp_4 boxes and one Win95 box.
I'm sharing disks and a printer attached to one of the warped
computers. Disk sharing works very well, but printer sharing
does not.
Local printing works. From the Win95 workstation, the printer
is listed in the Network Neighborhood and is fully usable. On
the contrary, the OS/2 Resource Browser doesn't show the sha-
red printer, even when launched on the PC that has the physi-
cal connection to the printer ! Therefore, I'm unable to ins-
tall a NetWork Printer Object on the OS/2 boxes. When I drag
the Network Printer template, the installation procedure shows
the server but not the printer and if I manually enter the
resource name it tells me "this resource doesn't exist" !
If I use the Shared Resources and Network Connections tool,
and try to set up a connection with the distant printer, I
*can* do it !!!
So, to set up a network printer, I have to use a two-step
procedure :
- set up a connection to \\DX2-OS2\DESKJET as "LPT1".
- set up a *local* DeskJet 550C printer object on \\C133-OS2
that will be connected to the redirected LPT1 port.
It would have been much easier to open the Resource Browser,
open the \\DX2-OS2 folder, then RMB on the printer icon and
install it as a network printer...
Win95 does see and use the printer like this, is Win95 more
compatible with Warp's networking than Warp itself ???
Read you soon !
