not with the software in use these days... most of it is coded to require a
zone... then there's the othernets... they're all 4D/5D... too much would break
to just drop the zones... how would we communicate with folks in othernets? it
is the zones and domains that keep things separated... i'm extremely sure that
no othernets would be willing to drop their zones and become 2D/3D and end up
confused with or wrapped up in fidonet...
