Our mains supply is 240 volts, so your modem PSU may suffer some stress. As
far as the telephone system is concerned, the modem should work fine.
It may not recognise the Australian service tones, but then again, some
Australian approved modems don't either.
I used to run my BBS on an internal V32bis USR Sportster imported from the US
of A.
It performed faultlessly, and even recognised the service tones in my area.
It is against the law, in Australia, to connect a non-approved modem to the
PSTN, but to date NO-ONE has ever been convicted of the offence...
