The Canadian border authorities seem to think they have a jurisprudence of
their own, and they love using it. In this regard, I doubt they vary much
from their bureaucratic colleagues in all countries.

Up here, normally it extends to heavy handed treatment of gay books and
porn, whereas the hetero stuff sails right on through without question. In
recent years, the border authorities seem to have decided our anti-hate
laws give them even more latitude to seize whatever they fancy if it might,
just might, offend somebody's delicate sensitivity.

I can assure you none of this gets hushed up ... it's in the press up here
fairly regularly, especially in a town like Toronto with a healthy gay
population.

Apart from thinking it's a ludicrous of their taxpayer dollars, I don't
think too many Canadians get upset about this. It's trivial to circumvent
it by sending the material electronically.
