-> Thanks for the reply George. I realize I will not find a
-> four cylinder 5 hp outboard. I am referring to the four cycle
-> outboards like the honda. You do not have to mix gas and
-> oil for your motor - do you? Are you satisfied with the amount of
-> power you have even when docking in higher winds? What size
-> motor did the Honda replace?
Chuck: Four cycle does sound a lot better. All four cycle engines
usually burn straight fuel. Although slightly more complicated than a
two cycle they produce a bit more power. I am quite happy, but I bought
the motor and boat used as a package. I would prefer to get another
motor such as a Mercury outboard just because parts seem to be scarce
around here. I ordered some parts from one place, and three months later
they hadn't still been ordered! I was looking for a transom screw handle
( black plastic handle), fuel filter and service manual: I even called
Honda directly to see if I could pickup the parts. With my experience
with Honda here in Toronto Ontario, I would say forget Honda, maybe
Mariner, Mercury or some other make. Make sure parts are easily
obtainable. Power is more than enough for my needs, I have seen 5 hp on
both smaller and larger boats than my 19 footer. I don't think that I
haver ever gone much more than half-throttle myself. By the way my boat
has a cuddy cabin and weighs 1200 pounds empty. I honestly think the 5
hp is sufficient for you. By the way you will probably need the long
shaft outboard, my boat needs the extra length of the motor!
