-> I expect that what you guys have been talking about (plastic
-> covered
-> styrofoam sailboat) was probably a "Snark". They're marketed by
-> Sears, come in two sizes ... small and smaller, and are *just fine*
-> for teaching little
 Rich: Yes that does sound like it! I was only about 15-16 years old at
the time myself, and I couldn't remember if it had a name or what. At
that time I had never been in any boat that didn't rely on an engine for
power. I did enjoy myself although we had problems trying to go where we
wanted to go. The cottage was very close to an island and the wind kept
blowing us towards it. Luckily for us we found a piece of wood and a
tree branch and used them as oars.
-> The Snark is really too small for an adult to use comfortably, but I
-> managed to do alright by lying on my back with my feet to the bow.
-> Definitely more of a kid's boat.
-> What you may have mistaken for a motor mount was probably the
-> plywood
-> reinforced transom where the gudgeons for the rudder pintles
-> fastened. I don't think a motor would be a good idea on one of those
-> things.
  You could be right about that, I am talking almost thirty years ago.
What I was thinking of was a very small motor (1.5 hp), now a days a
small electric trolling motor would make it fly. :->
  I remember he had it for a few years. I am glad that my boat is bigger
and better than the Snark.
    Thanks for the memories.
                                      George
