This is a personal opinion, but I think this problem has developed because 
members of a civil religious movement have gained virtual control of the 
social work profession and substantial influence in the psychology 
profession.  Gloria Stienem (sp?) stated its philosophy clearly, something to 
the effect, "It is my hope that by the year 2000 we will replace God with 
Human Potential."  It is a civil religion because paradise is delivered by 
the state raising children as they should be.  The equilvalent of a religious 
experience is accepting "the truth" that you were an abused child but 
repressed the memory or that you ARE a child abuser.  Once you have done 
either of these you will find your way to peace and tranquility under the 
gentle guidance of the person who led you to "the truth."  Since a 
fundamental belief among a significant number of these "professionals" is 
that all children are sexually abused, no evidence is required.  If you are 
somehow clever enough to hide the fact that you are a child abuser or an 
abused their belief system justifies lying to the police or courts.  That is 
why you have examples like the statement included in the Texas class action 
suite, "I will lie to anyone if I think it is in the best interest of the 
child."  There is a glimmer of light on the horizon.  Some social workers 
have realized that their profession is about to go down the tubes because of 
these fanatics and are looking for a way to save it.  What a time to be 
live!
