my tower case drive bays *replacing* two regular IDE (pata) drives that
used to be there. The motherboard has two (2) sata connectors for its
controller and two (2) regular ide connectors used by cd drives. The SATA
drives are connected directly to the sata controller connectors using the
proper supplied cables.

Hi Duncan,

In that case should be no problems - just buy two of the removable units
- the drives are fitted directly into the inserts which are then
inserted into the containing frames which mount in the same place your
drives are currently mounted - assuming that you have the 5.25" drive
bays with front access in the conventional manner with a plastic pop-out
strip hiding them from view! The SATA cables attach to the rear of the
frame and a mini-connector attaches the diskdrive to the mating internal
connector!

I have used removable HDD-drawers for years - and have two on every one
of my systems - only takes two seconds with power-off to swap [reverse
or replace] each drive - for whatever reason and no more skinned
knuckles - currently using ATA100 [80-wire] drawers on all but one
system which still has 40-wire [UDMA2 maximum], as that mobo predates
the ATA66 standard.
