What I meant was that you can tailor what parts of Linux you run to tailor it
to your specific hardware requirements. Most Linux distros nowadays ship with a
complete window manager with lots of tools, eye candy, and apps.
Not much hard drive space? hand-pick the applications you load at install time.
Have a low-end graphics card? Pick a different Window manager with lower
hardware requirements or forego the window manager completely and run in
text-mode.
