I did that with one caller, and we got into a screaming match over which
subnet my computer used.  He insisted a 192.168.* when I knew for a fact we
use 10.1.*, as the router is configured as such from the factory.

It _was_ a waste of time.  They know everything... about my computer.

I never got the point of explaining our setup of 4x Windows, 2x linux
VirtualBox PCs & 2x Ubuntu host desktop PCs, and, my Dell netbook's
occasional access.  Then there's my daughter's Dell desktop and her laptop
that use DHCP addresses in the 10.1.* range.  That would have gone over his
head, I'm sure.  :)
