I thought it was the sysop's DT> responsibility to monitor behavior in the door games they operate? DT> And to punish said bullies? So why aren't the sysops doing that in the DT> situation you are describing? Probably because some sysops have a policy of non-interference (since some users get rather upset by what they deem to as too much "babysitting" type interference by a sysop!) :| DT> The only true way to handle this situation I know from my old BBS days DT> of co-sysop-ing and playing Lord is to notify the sysop when someone DT> is abusing the Lord game. But every sysop I knew would do something to handle this DT> kind of situation, once they knew it existed. Of course, some users have a fear of coming across as "tattletales". . . :| So they just get PO'd then quit in frustration, and the game gets ruined for everybody, INCLUDING the bully types! I stay low in a couple games here, but I don't pick on anybody -- I basically just do it so me & a long-time LORD rival/buddy can duke it out with impunity, without getting bothered by the others too much! *LOL* PDK, the sysop here, once had an ANTI-CHEAT utility installed that monitored stats and, if a user sat too high in XPs for too long, without going on to kill the dragon, they got a few days' warning that if they didn't do it themselves, the utility would advance them ANYWAY,with whatever penalties the sysop has set (PDK didn't add any penalties (eg. loss of children, charm, etc.) but had it set to just advance you to level 1, with Level 1 stats(10, 10(Stick), 10(Shirt)), and give you your due dragonkill credit. . . :) I dunno why he took it out, except maybe it started getting overzealous and penalizing people unreasonably who had no reasonable chance to advance at the rate it was expecting? :) The games here are quite good now, just need some more active players... Come on by: telnet://milkyway.tzo.com DT> Lpedit - the Lord player editor that I finished in January 2003 with DT> Charlie Wardick's guidance, will take care of those bullies pretty DT> quick. Just select their Lord player record, and give them a "Clean DT> Slate", and they lose everything they have. There are two settings. DT> One does the kind of reset that you get when you kill Red Dragon. The DT> other makes them the same as a brand new player. Up to sysop which DT> punishment to use. Seems kind of similar to what the one we had running here did. . . :) (but automated) DT> Everyone playing the Lord game can see the person was punished for bad DT> behavior in the Daily News. If the punks keep up the bad behavior, DT> then it is time for said sysop to kick their sorry butts off of their DT> BBS permanently in my opinion. Sounds reasonable! In LORD II there used to be a guy who was expert at exploiting all the IGM bugs to cheat his way to being a superpower & bully, so PDK just set him up with his own copy of the game, where "anything goes" and any & all who went in there knows it is an unregulated freeforall (in the other games, PDK will rebuke/discipline/delete an annoying player, as needed) Your friend, <+]::-{)} (Cyberpope(the Bishop of ROM!))
