12358e2f0c8e tech Hello Jim - CA>>> What I see on television they are creating headgear that CA>>> really does reduce the landscape to nothing more than a CA>>> video game for the pilots. I guess they think reaction CA>>> times are faster with a view he/she is familiar with CA>>> (video games)? JB>> i think it's more a matter of filtering out the JB>> distractions, so to reduce the information overload. JH> I'm no expert on modern weapons systems, but I'd have JH> thought those virtual displays were intended more to JH> increase the effectiveness of the aviator's interaction and JH> use of the weapons systems at his/her disposal. Seems we're all saying the same things in different ways. Reducing the view to a video game = less detail = less distractions = reduced information overload? CA>> They say that, yes, but I can't imagine what CA>> 'distractions' they are referring to other than the sight CA>> of a city being blown to bits? JH> Charles, you've been putting up some posts over the past JH> week or two which I'd have thought beneath your JH> intellectual level. You been forgetting to take your meds, JH> or something?? No meds to take. A bit disgruntled that every explanation seems to be accepted at face value with little to no checks and balances to validate these hypothesis. I know other people, older than myself, who are as dissatisfied with the quick answers as I am. Possible for different reasons but we're not all convinced everything that is/was known has been told to us. That combined with the fact that I am no demolitions expert and cannot make a value judgement based on any prior knowledge of similar events. JH> Militarily, I think that the actual "blowers of cities to JH> bits" have pretty much been spared the more 'distracting' JH> views of their actions for quite awhile, back to field JH> artillery in WWI, same in WWII, and bomber aircraft in JH> WWII. Even back in WWII, it was a bit of a "game" view from JH> elevation say 20K feet. You drop your bombs, you wait JH> awhile, and then you film when the bombs finally start JH> striking "targets" at ground level. If they land on or near JH> their intended targets, you won!! That comment was made by a Viet Nam pilot referring to his active duty overseas (with a grin on his face) that made the comment a hard one to forget. Killing people should not be that easy IMO. JH> The "distracting" (aka disturbing?) views I think are all JH> down much closer to ground level. They carefully edited out JH> the blood, guts, and body parts so we didn't see that part JH> on TV, but some of the footage we did get to see after the JH> SEP11 events are what I'd call the disturbing parts. I'm confused that we spend all the money we do for GSA, NSA, FBI, CIA, and others plus spy satellites and can't get advance warnings of such an event nor locate two missing airliners in time to force them down (or shoot them down if need be). I seriously doubt that if my working lifetime had been spent managing those organizations that any person or persons who were a real threat to the USA could cough without my knowing about it. I'm trying to find a way to be as comfortable with the rationalizations as others seem to be. I have two sons of draft age and four grandsons that I do not want to see misused the way Viet Nam vets were misused. AFAIK I am the first generation of Americans whose peers died for no good reason in a battle we did not win. Once was one time too many. Before anyone asks, no I have never served in the military. > > , , > o/ Charles_Angelich - DOS Ghost \o , > __o/ > / > www.undercoverdesign.com/dosghost/faf/ < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
