That sure fixed it! I had come across the locale setting but it never
occurred to me that I would have to do the "Mark as default".

Well, I sometimes think that if I were any less strongly scientifically
minded, I would probably have come to the point believing in ghosts and
spirits from what I have experienced when playing around with computers
during the past 25 years!
