Hello, Charles and Jasen. -=> CHARLES ANGELICH wrote to JASEN BETTS <=- CA>>>> Any comment about what all that asbestos was doing in an CA>>>> office building in 2002 when that is supposedly illegal? JB>>> possibly asbestos cememt? CA>> Now that you mention it, I do believe there is such a CA>> thing ... Flat AC panels had many versitile applications - some may have been used in the WTC. At one time in early 70's, Johns Manville had a whole framing system for "storefront construction" with Insulated AC panels with high level exterior finish, extruded aluminum mullions and etc., which could use glass panels in there for whatever amount of vision glass was desired for the storefront.. AC was also used to construct pipes for water distribution systems here. There was a J-M plant which manufactured such pipes located in Green Cove Springs, FL. Toward the end, such pipes were about universally coated on the inside with epoxy. Also, corrugated AC panels were fairly widely used for some years for both roofs and siding on industrial type buildings. JB> yeah it's a budget wall cladding material CA>> you may be correct. Yes, he is correct, even here in the US, for awhile. - - Thin sheets of AC - maybe a bit more than 1/8" thick were used in this part of the country for a number of years - - Shingled rectangular sheets with a slight texture on outside face - as an overlay for wood frame construction houses where the the wood siding planks or exposed wood shingle siding had deteriorated. As "Lifetime Shingles" even for new construction back in the late 40's - sort of an octagon exposed pattern to the sheets. I think also used back then and maybe to early 50's as replacement roofing where composition shingles or worse had been. JB> over here it's legal to retain it in existing construction JB> but no longer available new. the replacemnrt product is JB> called fiber cement and has glass fibres (AFAIK) instead of JB> asbestos. First part - about the same here - - plenty houses that old still have AC siding and AC "lifetime shingle" roofs. Those products are not used now for new construction. There may be replacement products here which use glass fibers, just for repairs of existing applications. I dunno for sure. - - - JimH. ...
