The advanced screen contains lines ' Chip configuration ' ,I/O Device
Configuration ' and ' PCI Configuration '. I had looked at all of them but paid
most attention to the I/O and PCI sub-menus. What I missed was that the Chip
configuration sub-menu had to be scrolled down to show an ' Onboard PCI IDE
Enable ' option which of course was disabled. Enabling this one and the drive
was immediately recognized, I must have scanned past that page several times in
the manual which showed that this menu could be scrolled down thinking I had
already looked at all the entries.

Very menu THANKS to all who responded and to Sid for picking up on the chipset
.options.
