 In over 50 years working in and teaching radio/TV/electronics, I
 have NEVER heard of a full-wave rectifier using a center-tapped
 transformer called "push-pull".

 Yes!  Amplifiers use the same principle, but there is a great
 difference between power supplies and power amps.
