Gee Douglas, I've been swling for 10 years and the last in the clear
new traffic I saw was Prensa Latina and Tass. VOA used to be on too
out of Greenville, SC, I believe it was. At any rate, I doubt
if any in the clear "press" exists. Sometimes I see WLO sending
UPI wires to ships at sea. The ship simply dials up that particular
service in a SITOR call via good ole' telex network and then
that runs the highlights. Your probably better off subscribing to
CIS, GENIE or another landline bbs for the same stuff without garble,
at the mercy of propogation, or other contstraints such as being at
the right freq when some ship calls for the news. The services
all have moved their stuff to high speed satellite i/o unreliable
HF. Good hunting. Oh, those WLO et al freqs are in the 8, 12,
16 and 22 mhz bands. 8 and 12 best here for me in Central Florida.
