Geography... Turkey is a very, very strategic chess square. It is basically the doorway between Europe and Asia. In modern terms an airforce is able strike anywhere in the region from Turkey. I was told that Hitler CA> was very determined that the war would not become a 'profit CA> center' for big business. One of his mistakes. I don't agree, he was just as interested in financial matters as any of the other fascists of the time period. The only difference was he didn't even pay minimum wages and was set on an agenda which competed directly with the use of slave labour. (you can't have your slave labourers and bake them too) But the USA did make a deal with the devil in exchange for info on the communist Russia by allowing the SS to flee unpunished to places like Canada, Argentina, etc, and even to the USA, to live to a ripe old age.
