Subject: Readers and privacy
Recently I was in a discussion concerning voting and using alternatives means
to do so. When the topic of readers came up it was said that it was a
privacy issue. I personally feel it is dangerous ground to say that a
personal reader of the blind persons choice is not private. We have had to
deal with readers and privacy issues in exams and when signing legal
documents. As a reader to blind persons on many occasions I have always
understood my role and the confidentiallity that that may entail. I hope
that the ground we have won in the cause of using live readers will not be
lost in the efforts to use new tecnology in areas where live readers were
used in the past. I would be interested in any comments on this issue.
