D > Things have been rather slow on FidoProg lately
ke> Slow? I just checked todays and there are exactly two
ke> messages, both of them concerning some guy selling his
ke> old "classic rock" LP's. It seems that lately the number
ke> of "on-topic" messages is only barely approaching 25
ke> percent. Ama gonna have to start stirring things up.
ke> Maybe I'll repeat my classic assertion that Fripp and
 ke> Pink Floyd do disco.
D > Picked up some Gong and Soft Machine CD's before Christmas
 ke> Which ones?
_Best Of Gong_ from the early stuff through _You_ or _Shamal_, also
_Live Etc._ from Gong, and _Soft Machine Live In France_. Bargains!
 D > John Cale's _Walking On Locusts_

ke> How is that? Last I heard from him was a cut on the
ke> Basquiat soundtrack covering a Jeff Buckley cover of a
 ke> Leonard Cohen tune.
"Hallelujah"? That was one of the highlights of the "first" L. C.
tribute album... But anyway, the new Cale sounds good on first
listening. Maybe not on a par with _Paris 1919_ thru _Helen Of Troy_,
but better than average for the last 20 years. Mo Tucker and Soldier
String Quartet guest, and a couple tunes were too raucous for the
wife's taste, so it's a decent mix...
ke> I was just listening to Cale's _Honi Soit_ album last night.
On 8 track? I've always loved "Dead Or Alive". That "Penny Lane"
trumpet on top of the crunch of the rest of the track, and of course,
Mr. J. C.'s "menacing-mode" vocalisms makes for an impresssive tune.
Only problem with starting an album with such a fine song is that I
can't remember much of the rest of it... But it's good!

D > in-laws got me best of Andrew Lloyd Webber and the Wizard Of Oz
ke> Could be worse, they could have gotten you Ebola, and no,
ke> that's not a device to make your guitar sound like a cat.
He he. That's the bug that makes your face look like a Peter Gabriel
album cover, right? Or izzit the one that makes you sing like Adrian
Belew? IAE, mixing it with mashed potatoes smooths it out considerable.
D > I COULD listen to the ALW, but what if I like it?
ke> You're getting old, who knows, it could lead to your
ke> liking the Moody Blues at Red Rocks video.
ke> You know it's terminal when you find
ke> yourself looking forward to the release of the Mannheim
 ke> Steamroller Christmas video.
You got something against Mannheim Steamshovel? Actually, "Toy Story",
"James And The Giant Peach" and the latest Wallace And Gromit, "A Close
Shave", are the only videos I've seen lately, and since Randy Newman's
song about E.L.O. is about as Prog as he ever got, they're all pretty
much off topic...
So when's the Canadian New Year?
