Hello Joe
Op 10 Feb 98 18:48 had jij het over *Matsushita (was: Scratch
equipment...)*...
TK>> I am sound engineer at the Arena in Amsterdam
JK> What kind of place is the Arena, if you don't mind my asking?
Not at all....The Arena is a combination of a budget hotel, bar/restaurant
and two festival halls.....in these halls I work as
soundengineer...occasionally doing some lights as well.
JK> (I happen to be In Amsterdam from time to time, and useful advice about
JK> the place is always welcome...)
It's not expensive anyway... :)
JK>>> Why do you use Vinyl?
TK>> Because that is what the people want....and what they want the DJ's to
TK>> do.. Also because vinyl is better to control in a mix than CD.
JK> I don't know if Vinyl is better to control in a mix than CD.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean the mixdown of the sound but the 'art' of
synchronising the record to the beat...what art it may be anyway :)
JK> But from my observations, you cannot generally say that the people want
JK> vinyl. I often see audiences that don't care at all where the music comes
JK> from, as long as they like it.
Yes that's right....I can't see into peoples minds....I still wonder what
they like about dance for instance....It depends on the audience a
bit....mainstream audience don't mind at all as long as there's some beer
left .....
JK> But then again, Luxemburg is not the Netherlands, so thios might vary
ith
JK> the country.
It's a bit strange here, you know.....it is very difficult to get records
here...everything is on CD in the regular shops.....Anyway, DJ's don't seem
to have any problems to get records....and lot of them still use it...
JK> I'm sorry if i did offend you. I didn't intend this.
Thanks Joe...I'm glad you write this...no offence taken...
JK> And yes, I've seen more than the folder of the local audioshop. I happen
JK> to mix 80-90 concerts/year, FOH or Monitor.
Great!, I'm doing about 50 a year, have done monitors a lot at the
arena...doing FOH more and more nowadays...lots of them is freelance work.
JK> I'm sorry that you're angry. I didn't want to hurt your feelings. Where
y
JK> questions really that annoying?
Euhm...I felt it that way....euhm....If I knew you didn't meant it that way I
wouldn't have reacted so explosive......I'm sorry...my apologies for my bad
temper....
JK> I assure you, I do like music.
I believe you...If you didn't you wouldn't be a sound engineer...
JK> Now, please let's forget this, I don't want a fight with a colleague.
I only misjudged you Joe....I do apologise...I hope to see/read/hear from you
soon...If you ever come to amsterdam I'll make it up to you =)
Groetenzenzovoorts, Thom
