Because we *can*, that's why. Who's gonna stop us?

Frankly I don't think the regime in DC believes a word of it. Democracy
doesn't work in *this* country (an overwhelming majority of the American
people have given up on elections and don't bother to participate).
AF> The US would do that totally alone in national terms.
So? Why would Bush care?
AF> Iran? If they really don't want you there? All of them?
I said maybe. And I repeat, it isn't tank country so all those armored
vehicles will basically be useless. Lots of nooks and crannies to hide
from our superbombs, too.
AF> Are you an al qaeda follower?
Hardly. George W. Bush is their best recruiter.
AAMOF my recommendation for those al-qaeda folks (and Hamas and Hezbollah
and members of the constellation of other such groups) is to (1) milk them
dry of any information that we could conceivably use and then (2) turn them
loose (with arms amputated at the shoulder, legs amputated at the hip, no
genitals, completely and permanently depilitated (bald) and pumped full of
sterile pork fat prior to release). Removed parts to be ground up and fed
to hogs with the former owners forced to watch. They *want* us to kill
them, I won't give them the satisfaction - but I will make object lessons
out of them.
Back in the 70's when it was de rigeur for middle-eastern terrorists to
hijack airliners and passenger liners, or just plain kidnap a group of
people, and kill at least one of their victims (Robert Stethem, USN, comes
to mind) to prove they were serious; one of the groups made the mistake of
grabbing a group of Russians killed one of them and held the rest hostage.
The KGB grabbed a couple of their guys and started sending pieces of them
back to their leaders. The Russian hostages were released and no Russians
(or FTM Soviet bloc citizens) have been molested since. We didn't do that,
and consequently it's open season on Americans all over the planet.

That won't happen. I have to wonder what'll Dubya'll do when 'free' Iraq
elects an anti-American Muslim government like Iran's.

AF> than to

>>
AF> Why?
We're still occupying Europe and Japan, over fifty years after that war
ended. We're still occupying the Balkans with no end in sight.
I have to wonder about people who think that Democracy (a fancy name for
mob rule) can be imposed by force on a society that has *no* history of
such.
AF> It will take some time to recruit some wholly new police &
AF> judges......possibly there will need to be job losses in the
AF> military.
And as soon as our troops are out of sight those new police and judges are
*dead*. Just as will happen in Afghanistan if and when our troops leave
there, and will probably happen in Pakistan anyway.
