Sounds like your DHCP server is not working correctly.

Under an eCS prompt type  IFCONFIG LAN0  you will most likely see you 
have no IP address.

Under Win2k from a command prompt type  IPCONFIG  - same most likely 
applies.

If your Router is a Linksys WRT54G, earlier versions had a bug where the 
DHCP server stopped renewing addresses. Solution (apart from upgrading 
the firmware) was/is to turn the router off and on again.

I see you have reset the router, which suggests there may be a config 
change in the router that has turned off the DHCP address (the address 
on your wife's PC was obtained later and has not as yet expired.

Also check your router is working in gateway mode not bridging mode as 
the latter will only pass thru the one address from the modem (most likely).

Try setting the eCS or W2k machine up with static IP address, subnet 
mask, default route and DNS addresses. If the system then works - your 
routers DHCP server is the problem.
