If you can build a PC from the clone boards out there, which you
can do with a phillips screwdriver, you could put them in a wood
case, which looks pretty neat.
But for one, you may find the EMF/RFI kinda high for rural TV/FM
reception. But whether the radio waves from the computer are any
more of a hazard than the radio/tv waves already in the air is a
moot point... I looked into getting conductive paint to coat the
inside of the wood case, but found the toxics in it so high that
you need an EPA certificate to use the stuff. My solution was a
layer of Renold's wrap glued to the inside wood surfaces which I
grounded.
If you are a decent woodworker, then build a 4' tall full tower,
9" X 5«" inside. In a regular minitower, the mthbd is vertical,
but the ISA/PCI slots are horizontal; rotate the mthbd 90ø, with
the modem, kybd, video, and mouse cables coming in from the top.
Now: the video and other controller cards are vertical too, much
better for natural air convection to cool *all* the chips on all
the boards. Drill vent holes in the wood bottom, and a vent out
the back of the top, and the whole thing acts like chimney, your
power supply fan can be thrown away, and in a quiet rural house,
you don't havta listen to it anymore.:)
