Having a badly damaged knee myself I pay attention when new developments or documentaries about such things comes my way. I am told that the glue holding the artificial knee joint into the bone will let go after some years and needs to be re-glued depending how active a person is. The newer knee joints allow you to turn your foot inward and outward relieving some stresses on the glue and giving greater flexibility of movement in general. Sort of a ball and socket type joint rather than the older 'hinge' type.
