Last I checked, XCDRoast hasn't been updated in years. So, it's likely to
build with old libraries (maybe even more so than with newer libraries).

I think the newest X11 port is XFree86 4.5. As you mentioned, XFree86 is
practically obsolete these days, but no OS/2 port of Xorg has been
released, at least as far as I know.
