Hi
Since I saw no more on this thread it is possible it is now a dead issue
but I realized I hadn't answered one important question namely how does one
judge a videocards performance w/o buying and testing each one, oneself?
Besides the obvious online testing services far too many to mention all but
including the ever popular "anandtech" and
"Tomshardware" sites as well as the online adjunct to most PC
magazines, the competition between the big two, ATi (AMD now) and nVidia,
is so fierce that considerable data is available right on their sites and
they are quite willing, I've found unusually so, to discuss choices over
the phone. Another possibilty of course, somewhat more objective perhaps,
is to check into what is being used at labs doing pro CAD work. Some of
them may even accept calls. I would also suggest contacting the makers of
benchmarks and especially the lab responsible for SpecViewPerf.
Best wishes
Jimmy
