subject: Rules for Pick 5 Contest 2003!

Yo All!

                 NASCAR 2003 Pick-5 Contest Rules

This is a FREE contest and the only prize for the contest winner is the
BRAGGING RIGHTS. Entries will be accepted in the NASCAR_CONTEST echo &
the RN_CONTESTS echo, where it will be gated to. Entries may also be
sent via E-Mail to me at wizards{at}shelby.net. Entries should consist
of the FULL NAMES of the drivers you think will finish in the top three
spots for each race, plus a pick for the pole winner.

! And now we are going to pick a dark horse that might win and the pick
gives the same 100 points that you would receive for the winner of the
race.

Example below and "PLEASE" try to send picks in as close to the manner
below as possible!:

Pole: Dale Jarrett
1st:  Jeff Gordon
2nd:  Dale Jarrett
3rd:  Terry Labonte
4th:  Tony Stewart
5th:  Ricky Rudd
Might Win: Dale Earnhardt Jr.

My last mail run prior to qualifying is made at 12am the night before!
The last mail run prior to a race is made at 12am the night before the
race date. All entries contained in mail packs up to the 12am mail run
the night before qualifying, will be eligible for the '50' bonus points
awarded for picking the pole position correctly! Entries received after
this time will be accepted; however, pole picks on these entries will
be invalid for the bonus. Picks for 1st-5th place will be accepted up
to the 12am mail run the night before race day. The 1st picks received
are considered your official picks unless the race is rescheduled, AND
at least 1 week later.

If a contestant's entry is not received, or received after the deadline
for entries set above, their previous picks will be their default picks
for the current race. Default picks will be allowed for up to 2 races
consecutively. That means that new picks need to be made a minimum of
once every 3 races. Any contestant who does not enter new picks after
their default picks have expired, will be marked as inactive until new
picks are received! The maximum amount of time you will be allowed to
remain on the inactive list is 3 consectuive races. After that you'd be
removed from the contest.

To allow for vacations, business trips, etc, advanced picks are allowed
for up to 3 consecutive races.

You will receive the points the three drivers received in the race, not
counting lap leader points. Additionally, you'll receive bonus points
if any driver you pick finishes in the exact position you choose.

The following Point System list lists the points to be awarded based on
the finishing position of your entries. Points will be awarded in accor
dance with the current NASCAR Winston Cup Point System.

  6     150        17    112       28     79       39      46
  7     146        18    109       29     76       40      43
  8     142        19    106       30     73       41      40
  9     138        20    103       31     70       42      37
 10     134        21    100       32     67       43      34
 11     130        22     97       33     64

Bonus points are awarded to contestants based on the following:

Pole Position Right=  50
1st Finisher Right = 100 OR Might Win Right = 100
2nd Finisher Right =  60
3rd Finisher Right =  40
4th Finisher Right =  20
5th Finisher Right =  10
Hattrick           =  50
(Pick top five, but not necessarily in correct order)

Under this system, the maximum points per race would be:
Pole           =  50
1st 175 + 100  = 275
2nd 170 +  60  = 230
3rd 165 +  40  = 205
4th 160 +  20  = 180
5th 155 +  10  = 165
Hattrick Bonus =  50
                 ~~~
Total           1155
You'll receive points for the driver who's in the car at the start of a
race only.
  Example: If Ernie Irvan leaves a race (for any reason) and then subs
  for Jeff Gordon, in the number 24,  and goes on to win the race, you
  would not receive 100 points by choosing Irvan to finish first,  but
  would receive 100 points for choosing Jeff Gordon to finish first.
If a driver QUALIFIED a car for a race but (for any reason) doesn't get
to START the race, you will receive the points earned by the driver who
starts the race in that car.  If a driver did not qualify for the race,
you will receive (0) zero points for that driver.
If a race is rescheduled at least one week into the future, all entries
except Pole Position  may be changed.  Pole Position  Picks may only be
changed if pole qualifying was also rescheduled otherwise your original
picks must stand.
If pole position qualifying is completely 'rained out' and the driver's
starting position is based on their Winston Cup points, NO bonus points
will be awarded for pole position on that RACE!
Standings will be sorted based on your average by using the formula:
	Average = total points / number of race entered.
In order to allow for people to enter the  contest after the start of a
season,  yet still be fair to those  that have been in the contest from
the beginning, a person  must enter at least 75% of the races run to be
listed with a position in the standings.  Those with less than 75% will
have an asterisk * in their position until they've entered the required
number of races.
In the upcoming 36 race season an entrant must enter 27 races to become
eligible for the final standings.
The CONTEST moderator reserves the right to arbitrate, and/or interpret
any rule.  The moderator also reserves the right to accept or to deny a
late entry.
ALL persons entering the Pick-5 Contest are  STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to see
the contest through to it's conclusion.
I'll attempt to have standings out within 48 hours following each race.
