DL>I have used a Hi fi VCR for recording of radio shows for later dubbing
DL>to cassette and for making party tapes that will play uninterrupted for
DL>hours. The results were generally better than FM quality but not up to
DL>the same quality as my Nakamichi gets from the same sources.
Both VHS and Beta Hi-Fi have the potential for CD-quality recordings
without the digital artifacts, but this potential is limited by
the quality of the electronics inside the deck itself.
Since your Nak probably cost 3 or 4 times the price of a cheap
Hi-Fi VCR, its electronics are probably much superior. AFAIK,
audio cassettes are fine within their limited dynamic range,
and as long as you don't expect them to do anything above about 14 KHz.
