I know this sounds simplistic, but whenever my pendrive (Sandisk 1g.) comes up with a message as being not formatted, I do a checkdisk on it, and then it is readable. You could try that. In my case, the data on the Sandisk is never touched, it just becomes readable under eCS. This since eCS 1.2.
