Now suppose I hadn't answered your message?
I don't think Phil is a fool, and I appreciate his passionately held
oppostion to an unprecedented pre-emptive strike on another nation. I just
think his "it's all the USA's fault" rhetoric is intellectually
dishonest. The political cover provided to Bush by the Blair
administration has been invaluable.
My personal feeling is that the Iraqis will be better off without Saddam
(and his sons an other political henchmen), but I fear we have
*grossly* overestimated our ability to install a workable Iraqi
democracy that will serve as a platform to transform the Middle East.
I believe we have also grossly underestimated the degree of enmity the
invasion is earning us in the Arab world.
