GC> So do you regulate speed of engine by gas valve only??
Yep Gary. With regulated LPG gas output for like a stove, the output
from the valve was vary regular judging by the consistent speed of the
motor once it warmed up, which was in a couple minutes.
Remember trying to start this with a pull rope is very tricky: if you
can pull the rope at the same time you open the valve with your other
hand, you might get the LPG/air mix good enough to catch. But, with
a generator "Motoring" when you turn on the gas, as soon as the mix
gets rich enough (constant flow-no fuel pump) the engine catches, it
revs up till it gets too lean, sputters till it slows enough, and if
it sputters too much, the generator starts motoring again,, and it'll
settle down if you don't have the throttle set too far open.
... which ain't very far with a 3hp motor driving a 240-300 watt 12
volt generator. I once had a 1hp antique cast iron briggs that ran it.
When I first set up the generator with the pulley & motor, I used a
high watt ceramic pot to fool around with the generator output to set
the output amps at the highest without overheating during extended run.
