BG> Later: No joy, that driver flatly refuses to load under any circumstances. RS> Certainly rather odd. Presumably just a warty driver which exhibits RS> its wart in that particular motherboard/cpu/IDE port config etc. BG> Yeah, there's absolutely no doubt at all now that the driver is fucked. Looks that way. RS> The Soundblaster CDROM drivers are pretty relaxed about what they will RS> run on CDROM wise, mainly coz Creative uses a variety of OEM drives. BG> The one I now use (which works) is for a Mitsumi, I believe, Yeah, its one of the better ones. The later one has a rather elegant switchable mode where you can tell it what to do on read errors in the higher spin modes, to try at a lower speed and whether to lock at that lower speed for that particular rom or keep trying the full speed on later access etc. Can be handy with particular roms which arent too well balanced and dont spin to well at the higher speeds. BG> even though the name sounds like something BG> you'd use on a Creative drive (SBIDE.SYS). Thats because some of the Creative CDROM drives are Mitsumi OEMs. BG> BTW, you might be interested to learn that I sold the SIS VLB m/board, BG> the AMD 5x86/160 CPU, the 2Mb CL5428 VLB video, and its 32-bit EIDE VLB BG> controller, to none other than your extremely good friend, Dave Hatch. Yeah, noticed you shafted Dave for $300 for your VLB stuff, what he could have bought brand new in PCI format |-) @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 712/610 @PATH: 711/934 |
