subject: US Code Title 31, False Claims

JL>What about self-help? Are thee any support groups for people
JL>who have
JL>been falsely accused? There are for everything else these
JL>days and
JL>frankly I have more respect for someone who has been there
JL>and been
JL>through it and come out with a decent life for themselves
JL>than for any
JL>of these so-called experts. My husband says a xpert (spurt)
JL>is a drip
JL>under pressure and an ex is a has been so an expert is a
JL>has-been, drip
JL>under pressure. I think he has a point there.
That definition of "expert" was often repeated while I was in the Army back
in the 70's. I think it was originally "invented" by a Roman soldier.
As for self help, yes there are at least two possible sources. FMS (False
Memory Syndrome Foundation) and VOCAL (Victims of Child Abuse Legislation)
are national organizations which may have associations in your state. FMS is
for adults with grown children who have "recovered memories" of being abused
as children and belatedly accused their parents of commiting that abuse. The
FMS chapter in Arkansas is very good. I have spoken at several of their
meetings. VOCAL is pretty much for every one else falsely accused or those
interested in protecting themselves from being falsely accused. They have
excellent information on legal issues and other relevant information.

There are several avenues for locating local chapters for either
organization. (1) Check with your local library, most libraries maintain a
list of local organizations with contact information. (2) Check with your
state agency that handels incorporation, both organizations frequently
incorporate as nonprofit orgainzation. They must list a registered agent with
contact information to do so.
(3) Post a request for information on local BBS, someone will probably know
or know someone who knows.

Both organizations have national toll free numbers, but I do not have them
handy right now. CAN SOMEONE ELSE PASS THEM ALONG?

Please let me know how thing go. Good luck.

I know it can be frustrating. Winston Churchill keeps me going, "Never,
never, never give up."
