Hi Ray 
  External enclosures for Sata drives are in bountiful supply in a wide
range of sizes and prices.  I'm very happy with my $40 US CoolGear box
(described in "confused" reply) that stated it was tested with
optical drives as well as hdd's.  The biggest differences I see in prices
has to do with whether or not they come with hot-swap carts.  Many accept
numerous brands of generic hot-swap carts, allowing you to decide and
purchase later if so desired.
