No Basil, you can't.
Why?
Because the 32 bit file os2dasd.dmd needs os2lvm.dmd. And os2lvm.dmd
only will work if the system "properly" had been LVM-ed prior to it's
load in memory (you know, that's the reason why there are reboots etc...)
OS2DASD.DMD waits for data parsed to it by os2lvm.dmd . If OS2DASD.DMD
doesn't get the NECESSARY lvm data from os2lvm.dmd, it can't assign
drive letters and consequentely quits with the error message Jack
reported in his earlier message here.
Bottom line: your only option NOT to use LVM is to replace the 32 bit
os2dasd.dmd by a 16 bit os2dasd.dmd or DANIDASD.DMD. But as the latest
of these file date from 1999, they don't/can't match 2005 hardware, and
as such these files are already antiquated.
Suggest we forget about it, as otherwise people will get confused (again).
BTW1:
If you ask why I've been silent hitherto, the why is:
- I usually keep my mouth shut when grown up people are talking.
- I only interfear in a second stage when bad advises keep popping up
(such as advising wrong drivers for a printer, trying to use the 32 bit
OS2DASD.DMD on an 1.4 diskette and things like that).
BTW2:
What about some proper quoting?
