I think currently the situation with the card readers is that some work
without any problems and some work with problems. I don't think you'll
find a card reader that doesn't work at all.
The Floppy cardreader combo works really well.

Before I had a card reader that worked well as long it was recognized
upon bootup. But every few weeks it was seemingly lost and not
recognized anymore and all I could do, was to COMPLETELY power down the
system. After that it worked normally again.... Never figured out why...
