BG> MSCDEX is installed from autoexec.bat, and the system hangs BG> long before then. In fact, stepping through each line of BG> config.sys works fine until I get to CR_ATAPI.SYS, then it BG> locks solid with the Divide Overflow message. Haven't tried BG> JUST that driver on its own though, but will later today. Sure, I just wanted to make sure you really had proven it was the driver that carefully. BG> Later: No joy, that driver flatly BG> refuses to load under any circumstances. Certainly rather odd. Presumably just a warty driver which exhibits its wart in that particular motherboard/cpu/IDE port config etc. RS> The other approach is to just use a different DOS CDROM RS> driver, once you move to ATAPI CDROMS they normally dont give RS> a damn about the fine detail of the particular CDROM drive. BG> Might be worth a try. I've grabbed the very latest BG> drivers from Edge, but the same thing is still happening. The Soundblaster CDROM drivers are pretty relaxed about what they will run on CDROM wise, mainly coz Creative uses a variety of OEM drives. BG> Funny thing is that both Win95 and OS/2 work just fine Which is pretty convincing confirmation of a fucked driver which just exhibits its wart in that particular hardware config. BG> (just as well, as I don't need to use native MS-DOS 6.22 anyway). Yeah, I dont even bother with those DOS CDROM drivers except for a minimal DOS boot floppy which can see the CDROM drive for absolute last resort disaster recovery. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 712/610 @PATH: 711/934 |
