Salut Thom,
JK>>>> On the road, turntables are only used for scratching.
TK>>> Nope....not in my kind of work....scratchers are a minority over here.
JK>> What kind of work are you in?
TK> I am sound engineer at the Arena in Amsterdam
What kind of place is the Arena, if you don't mind my asking? (I happen to be
In Amsterdam from time to time, and useful advice about the place is always
welcome...)
 JK>> Rave/Techno/whatevertheycallit DJ?
 TK> No Joe....
Oops.
JK>> Why do you use Vinyl?
TK> Because that is what the people want....and what they want the DJ's to
TK> do.. Also because vinyl is better to control in a mix than CD.
I don't know if Vinyl is better to control in a mix than CD. But from my
observations, you cannot generally say that the people want vinyl. I often
see audiences that don't care at all where the music comes from, as long as
they like it.
But then again, Luxemburg is not the Netherlands, so thios might vary with
the country.
 JK>> Nostalgia? Because it's "kewl"?
TK> Do you really think that you, by far, could have the slightest idea what
"kewl"
TK> is.....do you really know anything about the Pro-audio sector ?...have
TK> you ever seen anything else in your life than the folder of the local
TK> audioshop and what those idiots told you to call PRO ?
I'm sorry if i did offend you. I didn't intend this.
And yes, I've seen more than the folder of the local audioshop. I happen to
mix 80-90 concerts/year, FOH or Monitor.
JK>>>> And scratching certainly has nothing to do with pro audio, more with
 JK>>>> noise.
TK>>> So, why bother to talk about it then ?
JK>> Well... This is the AUDIO echo, not the PRO_AUDIO echo. So, I think
hat
JK>> turntables might be ontopic here...
 TK> Amazingly good thinking, Joe...
TK> I earn my money in the pro audio business by being a sound engineer and

TK> good one....All the gear you need for a band + support act + non-live
 TK> music etc.
We happen to have the same job then.
TK> etc. etc. is in this case PRO-AUDIO GEAR....RIGHT ?
 TK> Pro means Professional....RIGHT ?
I'm sorry that you're angry. I didn't want to hurt your feelings. Where my
questions really that annoying?
TK> I haven't encountered any other PRO turntable system in this PROfession
TK> than the Technics SL-12xx MKx.....only on the rare occasion and with
 TK> regret.
TK> Don't talk to me about LINN or likewise.....those things are Hi-End
turntables
 TK> but definitely NO Pro-gear.....it wouldn't survive a week...
TK> Maybe a Thorens Reference in the occasional LP-restoration studio could
be
 TK> called PRO.
JK>> Even if I don't like them, other people
JK>> might, and I'm still curious why...
TK> I don't care whether you like or dislike Turntablesystems....it's all
about
 TK> music anyway....but then I assume you also don't like music ? =)
I assure you, I do like music.
Now, please let's forget this, I don't want a fight with a colleague.
bye ....
         Joe
