Bob,
DR>> Personally, I'm using a cable modem, hooked to a 10mbps EtherNet
DR>> card. Costs about $60.00 p/mth total. This isn't too bad, when
DR>> you consider that most folks who are on line a lot have a
DR>> separate phone line. Let's say this line on average is $15.00 -
DR>> $20.00 p/mth. Then add the typical $20.00 p/mth InterNet account
DR>> fee. The $60.00 I pay includes the InterNet account. It's not
DR>> that big of a difference, to have the performance. As an
DR>> example, I sucked down IE 4.0 (24.5 Meg) in less than 3 minutes.
DR>> I'll pay the extra $20.00 - $25.00. :)
BJ> If you're lucky enough to have a modern cable company that offers
BJ> this, it's definitely the way to go. However, if you happen to live
BJ> in a neighborhood that fills up with cable modem surfers, your
BJ> performance will decrease as more come online, as all are sharing the
BJ> same finite bandwidth over the common cable.
The "common cable" is fiber optic. I don't see the cable as being
"limiting". :) The only thing that I see as a limiting factor, is
the T1.
BJ> xDSL is a nailed-down dedicated line with bandwidth that's fixed
BJ> and 100% exclusively yours 24 hours a day. That's why it's more
BJ> expensive. :-)
Please explain this further. Doesn't it see the same thing at the
other end?
