MR>>What would you think about that:

     ^^^^^^^^
Mike (and JG), I am not starting an argument here, but this
"problem" has been studied by this forum "before" - by experts
better than I am at explaining why PB chose NOT to do the QB
thingy with SUBS, etc. It has something to do with the "power" and
"talents" of PB being able to use memory in a different way than QB
designed their product. I have a good friend who upgraded to PB at
my suggestion and then stopped using it because it wouldn't behave
like QB in this regard. I know at "first hand" (at lunches with
him) how he wishes PB would change its ways. Other ways to do it
that you may enjoy, would be to use your favorite editor so that you
would not have an arguments over its features. You could put you
SUBS at the bottom of your SOURCE and then using your editor's
features (Qedit, TSE, PEDIT, VEDIT, SED, etc) jump immediately to a
bookmark you set yourself. You could even set a Macro or HotKey
combi to jump there with one touch of your favorite key.
Basically, you would be in charge. (pun intended)
I wish PowerBasic and SEMWARE could join and come up with the
ultimate combination. For me, that would be great, too.
So far as compiling your source code, you can always do that at the
DOS command line and -boy- is it fast. My PB3.2 IDE takes 2 minutes
to compile a large program I have and takes 3 seconds using the
command line method. PB knows about that problem too. I'm sure
they are working to narrow the gap there. Of course when I have to
debug and step though my mess, I use the features of the IDE because
THEN, I'm not editing so much anymore.
Personally, I use TSE 2.5, and PEDIT (freeware by Paul Brand) for my
editing and have a batch file set up to compile "%1" for me anytime.
Dave Navarro of PowerBasic may come in here and correct me for you,
but he and Bob Zale are generally busy working on the next version,
unlike Bill Gates' company for QB users (I used to be one, too).
Feel free to write me at my Internet address if you need me
to explain anything. Glad to help if I can. Peace.
