Europe forecast - January 15, 2025
Central continent settling
Showery Mediterranean
Issued: 0530hrs Wednesday 15th January 2025
Duty forecaster: Dan Graves
High pressure over the continent keeps things settled in central
countries, sun becoming more widespread here on Thursday. Showers
across all Mediterranean areas, becoming stronger west.
Wednesday
Spain and Portugal fine and mostly sunny. Scattered clouds and few
showers across the Balearics, Sardinia, and Corsica. Showers more
frequent in southern Italy and Sicily, with heavy, thundery showers in
southwest Greece. Showers gradually clear away from the Aegean Sea
towards the east into Trkiye.
High pressure over France allows for fog to build here, in the Low
Countries, and Germany. Widely cloudy across much of Central Europe,
some clear skies in Switzerland and northern Italy. Snow showers will
linger in the Austrian Alps and mountains areas nearby in Poland and
Croatia. Sun spells further south in Romania and Albania, though cold
here.
Some patchy sun arrives in the UK, North Sea, and Denmark near the high
pressure core. Breezy further north with heavy persistent rain on the
Norwegian west coast. Rain and snow moves across northern Sweden and
Finland through the day, drier but cloudy south and into the Baltic
States.
Thursday
Another fine sunny day for Portugal and Spain, though clouds and
showers arrive at the Balearics and east Spain in the afternoon.
Showers will be frequent in Sardinia and Corsica all day, similar in
southern Italy. Some showers remain near Greece, though gradually will
lessen in frequency and intensity. Becoming mostly sunny in the Aegean
and west Trkiye.
Windy with some showers along France's southern coast. Otherwise mostly
dry across the continent. Clouds gradually break across the Low
Countries, southern Germany, and the Balkans to reveal good sunshine
and milder temperatures. Remaining cloudy further east in Poland,
Belarus, and Ukraine, a few stray showers possible in northern areas.
A mix of cloud and sun in the UK and Denmark, mostly dry here. Spells
of precipitation on Norway's southwest coast, more frequent north. Sun
spells possible in Sweden and Finland with a few stray drizzly showers.
Similar in the Baltic States.
