Hello Jim -

JH> Hello, Charles. Replying in haste - - gotta travel tomorrow
JH> AM to see new grandkid.

Drive carefully, the life you save could be MINE. :-)

JH> You took issue with my 'synopsys' of what I had briefly
JH> read - -

Somewhat. I mainly 'take issue' with your intolerance of
opinions you do not agree with.

JH>> Some of the spray-on fireproofing used on WTC steel was
JH>> found to contain about 20% of asbestos fibers, but those
JH>> were the "serpentine" type fibers, generally not
JH>> considered to be as dangerous as other type asbestos
JH>> fibers, due to their large size.

CA>> You failed to mention why they are not considered as
CA>> dangerous.

JH> 'Mea Culpa', I guess, but didn't my citing of "due to their
JH> large size" get me in under the wire?

No.

CA>> Supposedly people can cough them up from their lungs.

JH> Yuh, "due to their large size" I surmised folks generally
JH> hack them out, and they don't end up way down in the lungs
JH> like those tiny sharp intert fibers which seem to have
JH> caused most of the asbestos-related health problems?

CA>> Nothing said they won't be inhaled nor that they can't
CA>> embed themselves in people's lungs.

JH> Also, nothing said they _would_ be inhaled deeply enough to
JH> embed themselves in peoples lungs and cause health probs.

Seldom that anything mentions that gravity kills but jump off a
tall enough building and I can guarantee you will find out.
Once in awhile we just use common sense?

JH>> In the dust layers which settled, the particles most
JH>> commented upon, and which are/were known to be capable of
JH>> causing respiratory problems, were

JH>> dust from pulverized constituents of concrete, including
JH>> silica dust from pulverized constituents of gypsum plaster
JH>> and wallboard dust from pulverized products containing
JH>> glass fibers

CA>> You missed some fire retardant chemicals that were
CA>> mentioned in other articles you did not read?

JH> I read late DEC articles which concentrated on the organic
JH> constituents in the dust before I posted this, but didn't
JH> mention it to you for two reasons - - the news was
JH> generally 'good',

And you wanted it to stay 'good'.

JH> and you seem to have been hung up on the asbestos thing, so
JH> I didn't want to overload you with info about which you had
JH> not been commenting.

I am 'hung up' on the biased reports from day one of this
incident.

--8<--cut

CA>> I've been reading articles but with a twist. I don't
CA>> automatically assume that if it is in print "it must be
CA>> so".

CA>> http://www.newsday.com/news/local/newyork/ny-hswtc1226,0,29
CA>>

JH> What is "NewsDay"? Your cited link didn't work for me at
JH> first, but I think I finally got to an AP article at the
JH> newsday site to which you must have had reference. I think
JH> it was even more poorly written than the 12/26 or so
JH> article which I saw as part of my google search.

I wasn't looking for journalistic excellence, this was not a
literary endeavor.

CA>> I had this URL saved to post here AMOF. It somewhat agrees
CA>> with your synopsis but adds a few carcinogens to the list.
CA>> I'm not saying this article speaks for me nor that I
CA>> accept their results carte blanche. It does point out that
CA>> they _are_ aware there were hazardous materials (to
CA>> humans) within the structure.

JH> Per above, I read about, but didn't want to introduce the
JH> issue of the organic constituents for the purposese of our
JH> current discussion.

Which just 'happens' to lessen the overall effect of how
dangerous that dust is/was.

JH>> rather than blindly accepting "blame the rich capitalists"
JH>> type theorizing.

CA>> You probably have no knowledge of the Astor family history
CA>> or how they came to be as rich as they are. I do. It began
CA>> with selling guns and whiskey to the American Indians.
CA>> Neat huh?

JH>

JH> Starting here you digress again into positing your own
JH> political and world-view about how 'the rich and powerful'
JH> in the USA are the root of all evil. I won't discuss such
JH> topics with you in this echo. (probably no place else,
JH> either).

You did 'start' by criticizing what I had said. You won't
_continue_ because your opinions are not based on _facts_ but
on propaganda you prefer to believe to make like easier to
tolerate.

JH>

CA>> Here's more reading:
CA>> http://news.com.com/2100-1023-978598.html Just relax,
CA>> everything is fine. The rich and powerful watch over you
CA>> and keep you.

JH> I read it. Scarey, but IMO not a topic for the TECH echo.

It is an attempt to use TECHNOLOGY to monitor our use of the
Internet. It is not a Hollywood musical, it is factual, and it
is happening.

CA>> Sorry to be so harsh but you don't need to badger me to
CA>> make a point.

JH> Hee, well I got purdy thick hide at this point, so no need
JH> to worry about being so harsh, and I'm so dull-witted I
JH> didn't even realize I was badgering you,

One message addressed to me as a reply is not badgering. The
others you posted to other people _about_ me IS badgering IMO.

JH> and wonder if this post of yours was some sort of an
JH> attempt to badger me back and get even?? Just teasing - -

My reply is to let you and others know that I do read what you
type and I continue to have my own opinions that are as valid,
or more so, than uninformed opinions based on a bias to wave
the American flag at every opportunity.

JH> don't get mad, Charles, its bad for your outlook on life.

I was 'mad' when I found out politicians could wage wars we
didn't want, impose taxes no one agreed with, and generally
walk all over the people they claimed to be 'helping' with
impunity. This was at about the age of 8. I'm still mad.
